The "Island" ride

If you got half a day to spend on the bike, Take a trip on Jefferson from Belle Isle north to Harsens Island. We usually meet up at Belle Isle, at the marina and cruise around the island. Its one way too so be careful. It's only like four miles. Then exit the Island onto Jefferson north. You cruise by some bad parts of the city and then all of a sudden you are in Grosse Pointe. Its wild what an immediate difference there is. You cruise for awhile Until you hit about 17 mile, Its called South River Rd. you have to get on I-94 for a mile or two. Then take the exit for Hall Rd. east. That will take you back to Jefferson. You are gonna go all the way around Anchor Bay and Jefferson changes names but its the same road. When you almost get to Algonac, You'll see signs for the ferry to Harsens Island. Its like three bucks for bikes and you only have to pay once. It only takes like two minutes to get to the island. Once you get off, Hang a left and stay on Columbine Dr. This will Take you to San Souci Bar in a little downtown area. STOP HERE! They have the best clam chowder you will ever eat, as well as above average bar food. The place is right on the water, you can check out freighters and the US Coast Guard Boat flys by all the time with it's huge ass machine gun mounted to the deck. After that finish the island loop and head back to the ferry. You can either head back down Jefferson or hang a right on 32 Mile Rd and Head over to Richmond and Romeo and that area.
We do this trip a couple times a year and you always see new stuff. I love being that close to the water for a whole trip.
